Willaura Hotel, WILLAURA, VIC

This is the social centre of the thriving metropolis of Willaura (I'm being sarcastic by the way – though being a country pub it certainly is the social centre of the town). As I was driving to Melbourne with my friend we wanted to find a pub in the country and order a Glenfiddich (knowing that he would not have it, and then throw a trantrum as a result – we were quite young at the time). We were going to go to the pub in Dunkeld, however it seemed to be a bit trendy (which meant that it probably did serve Glenfiddick), so we went on and found this one. We had our request all planned out but when we went inside the bartender was such a friendly fellow that we simply could not pull that stunt on him, so we had a beer instead. Now that I understand country pubs a bit better I realise that the bartenders here tend to be very chatty (unlike the ones in the city who take your money with little more than a grunt).
